Jury Duty

A month ago John gets jury duty and doesn’t get called in, so I don’t make an excuse when I got my notice. Today I sat for 6 hours and didn’t even get a chance to get kicked out and now I get to go back tomorrow to try.

  1. We have so much in common, we must be related! I to am on jury duty this month! I ask for a deferment since I cannot hear, see, slighty mentally unbalanced, and am favor of capital punishment - but they said all they needed was a warm body and they will tell me how to vote! Your mother laughed at me when I got my notice, a week later she got her notice for April! I am in Group 2 - what group are you in? You know they do select jurists by their mental group, with 1 being the highest mental group and numerically decling downward with the higher numbers being in lower mental groups.

  2. What is the word on the street pertaining to the teacher strike in LA? Are they going to walk or talk?

  3. Undecided by ASD, teachers, and the arbitrator. Stalemate, I think.
If nothing is decided through spring break, a strike might be the order.
ASD is prepared to extend the school year for covering lost time - if strike occurs.

  4. We didn't get group numbers...we each got our own number. Yesterday they called 1 through 519...519 people in the the staging room was huge.
I was telling someone about the time I got called in homer...I got dismisses because Shane was a potential juror.
If our schools close...I do not plan on send them back during the summer for make up. I thought about courspondance (sic)...but now I am thinking finishing the year in Homer might be easier.

  5. It would not take much to convert the "Duck House" into a classroom. At least they could not use the excuse, "I need to go to the bathroom" to get out of class. During recess they could haul sand to fill some of the low spots on the playground. I get to be the Principal!

  6. I understand some parents are already making decisions on alternative educational programs in the event of a strike. Two of the LA students are planning to visit DU (Duck University)to view the campus and get acquainted with the administration. Seriously, it is a shame that the kids have to pay the price through possible school extension time if the teachers do walk. I heard on the news that the arbitration period was over and the teachers did not agree on the contract. I guess, I should go to the source and get it from a teachers point of view - I know one of them!
