When I first saw this article on national news, Ihad to check it out to see if this had happend in Homer. Poor Eagles, I canunderstand how it happened, if I got caught in a candy store, it may have the same affect on me!
If you want a great Eagle viewing area, go to the end of the Homer Spit, however, if you want a much better viewing area away from urban development, go to the Homer Landfill and Recyling Center. Homer Electric Association was required to spend umteen thousands of dollars to try to Eagle Proof the power lines in the landfill area several years ago, to date no such work has taken place on the Homer Spit. For those in the LA area, if you would like to take a tour of the landfill area and view Eagles, I have a special bird watcher package, two nights stay at the Anchor River Inn in Anchor Point and a three hour guided Eagle Tour and Photogaphic Hunt for $300.00 per day based on double occupancy. The Anchor River Inn is being utilized for lodging and meal accomodations because that is the best area for viewing Ravens on the Kenai Peninsula so you will have the opportunity to view, count and photrograph two species of birds in one trip.
Just wanted to say a post-holiday hello! I got your Christmas picture and just loved it! It is so you-guys! Hope things are continuing to go well. I’ll get back on my blog and post updates one of these days! =-)
In responce to your comments on my posting pertaining to "Newt" and what happened to him after "Commanche Moon" If you watch, Lonesome Dove and Return To Lonesome Dove, you will discover that Newt was raised by his father, Gus, and Deets. Although, Captain Call never gave Newt his name, however, he told Claire Allen, "I gave him my horse, I hold my horse in higher regard than I do my name" Newt rode off into the sunset at the conclusion of "Return To Lonsesome Dove", leaving a opening for a sequel of his life story. I heard he went to Calgary, Alberta and bought a herd of cattle and drove them to Palmer, Alaska. Some of the ancestors of this original cattle herd to Alaska still reside in the area.
