It's going to be a great berry year!

I picked the first batch of Raspberries yesterday and for every red one I picked, there were 10 green ones that I will have to go back for. I was going to start digging some of the plants up to give away, but by the time I harvest all the berries it may be frozen.

My very small Strawberry patch also is producing. I got 8 yesterday and there may be 8 more if I get to them before the slugs.

  1. I like berries! My strawberries are doing great for being transplanted to tjheir new location this spring. I have a decent harvest coming up, but I keep hoping they will get tothe size of a orange before I pluck them. If you have any extra raspberry starts, I will take a few to fill up my remaining beds. No raspberies fro me this year since I cut them back to starts this spring. Looks like I am going to get 6 blueberries and two cranberries from my starts.

  2. As for drip edges, went to my handy dandy carptenter book, although it deals primarily with sheds but in regards to "drip strips" which is the wrong term, they are called "butt strips" and there is no wrong way to install them. One direction you have more metal showing and the other direction less metal, it depends on the look you want. You can chalk them to prevent moisture build up but typically is you are using paint, the apint will fill any voids and act as chalk so if you are planning on painting the cabin, when you get to these edges, just add a little more paint.

  4. Friar, I would have to agree! Sad part is that is their good side. They are also soft and mushy but taste alright. If I let them go any longer they will rot. I may need to move them to a dryer/sunnier area.

  5. I took your lead today and harvested my strawberries, ended up with a half gallon of them, very red, sweet and juicy - shortcake for desert tonight, surely was good.
